A simulation game play, City 1 gives players the opportunity to explore more than 100 real-world situations to transform cities through technologies that reduce traffic congestion, save water, optimize supply chains and take advantage of sources alternative energy through a series of crisis scenarios.

In all missions, players must determine how best to balance the financial, environmental and sociological aspects of the city. Are challenged to improve the city achieving revenue and profit objectives, increasing customer satisfaction and making a greener environment with a limited budget. In parallel, players learn how to adopt technologies like business process management, reuse of services, cloud computing and collaborative technologies to help organizations do the systems of the most intelligent.

As urban populations grow, civic and business leaders face a host of unprecedented challenges. It is estimated that cities will move to one million people per week in the world. Experts predict that the population of the cities of the world will double by 2050. Today, cities consume 75% of the world’s energy, emit more than 80% of greenhouse gases and lose up to 20% of its water supply through leakage in the infrastructure. Within cities, global supply chains of retailers swell to $ 1.2 billion surplus in merchandise and operational systems of banks are subject to extreme pressure to handle more than 25 billion data messages market per day.

The infrastructure of the cities that are vital services such as transport, energy and water must rely on a lot of new information and new technologies that will enable them to detect and respond intelligently to the needs of their growing populations, and businesses within cities must learn to integrate these new technologies.

IBM also linked City 1 content management capabilities of business processes delivered by the cloud that allow real time communication with other players and industry experts from IBM. As a result, a player can have conversations about how the game play models relate to real-world implementations.

Since the play announced plans in May, more than 8000 people pre-registered to play City 1. In addition, key organizations worked with IBM to improve the game design. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) content and resources provided City 1.
